200 companies have registered interest in offering their services - mainly construction firms naturally - as the Gran Scala project begins to draw the attention of the wider public.

In Ontiñena the town hall has had to set up a special office to deal with interest in the project due to the flood of interest. Several people have even applied to register themselves as living there in order to get priority treatment in job searches.

The ILD has talked about investing 1.3 billion in the project, which sounds like a lot of job creation. Of course not a single stone has been laid to date, but the shere prospect of job creation in todays market is enough to stir up emotions. Spain has lost over 1 million jobs in the last 12 months and most of those have come from the construction industry, which is in free fall. Across Spain construction sites have come to a standstill or have closed as numerous companies have gone bust. Any prospect of improving on that scenario is bound to be welcome.
